My parents return from Saudi Arabia to the UK. Shaykh Muḥammad and I travel via train to London City Airport to receive Mufti Muḥammad Taqī ʿUsmānī and his wife. However, there are no measures in relation to Coronavirus in any of the three countries. The outward journey is via ʿUmrah in Saudi Arabia where we meet my parents, and the return journey is via UAE where we meet with Afzal Majid and his family. I travel to India with Shaykh Muḥammad and two of his colleagues from Ummah Welfare Trust on 29 December 2019 and return to the UK on Monday 6 th January 2020. The general feeling is that this is something restricted to China similar to Ebola and other diseases of the recent past. News reports emerge about the outbreak of a disease in China. May Allah Almighty accept this collection, enable the Ummah to reflect upon the pandemic and bring change into our lives. Al-Ḥamdulillāh, we answered more than 100 Q&As on Covid related matters and also authored some articles, resources and guidelines. Second, this diary provides context to some of the Covid related Fatwas on our website. Every attempt has been made to ensure that the dates are correct. 
Several points are worth noting in this regard:įirst, the entries prior to are based on memory, other writings of mine, and external sources. Now that two years have passed, I thought it useful to revisit the diary and publish it online.
However, on (10 Ramadan 1441), I started to write a diary, thinking that it shall not exceed a few months. Initially, I did not pay much attention to this. Two years have passed, and Covid-19 has transformed the world, although the media attention has turned to the ongoing war in Ukraine in recent weeks.Īt the beginning of the pandemic, a very dear friend Dr Riyad Kallingal who I was liaising with very closely on Covid related matters suggested to me that I should pen a diary for the benefit of future generations. I am currently on the Istanbul to London Heathrow Turkish Airlines flight, and a flight attendant has reminded me to wear the face mask.
